Been drifting cut shad without much success. Is there a depth that I should be looking for blue's this time of year? Or is a time of day issue as I have been doing mostly after work and night fishing. Any help?

How deep of water are most of the shad in? I would say fish the depth you are seeing big schools of shad on your fish finder. I don't fish Cedar Creek often so cannot be specific.

In the two main lakes i fish, the shad and the blues have been in water ranging from 12 to 19 ft....but not all lakes are the same, but that's where I would start. Try flats that are in that depth range that are close to the creek channel...can also try drifting or trolling along the creek channel as well. This time of year, if you drift the creek channel, try using navionics or lakemaster if you have it, if not. You can download it on android or iphone for like 10 bucks and 50 bucks on ipad in HD and try to find parts of the creek channel that are near big flats, and where the channel bends and weaves around. Up in kansas on milford lake there's a part of the creek channel called the horseshoe. It's where the creek channel winds around forming what looks like a horseshoe. And for some reason this time of year the fish were always in that section of the channel, I've also tried other lakes as well hitting parts of the channel that wind and run like that and always done good.hope this helps (and makes sense lol)....never fished cedar creek either though.

Thanks,

I went out today and found them on the north end in about 7 feet of water. I think I was fishing way too deep. Water temp was 89F. Cut shad drifting 1 ft above bottom.

Dang!! 7ft?! What's the water temp there? That seems quite shallow for this time of year! Lol
