What kind of sprayers are out there on the market and what are the price ranges? What is best for keeping fish alive?

I have some in my boat, and they are the long kind with the holes in it. The little handles on them are broken off and I wanted to replace them with something better. I have a single hose coming into the livewell. I am not sure my little aerator pump can do a whole lot with two live wells. It is a pretty small pump.
How much pressure needs to be coming out of the sprayer? A trickle, spinkle, or a geyser? I know it is just to aerate the water and keep the oxygen going, but need to know what kind of pressure we are talking about.

Thanks
Eric

I have a spray head similar to the one at the link. They are not that expensive.

HEY.. now that would work. Does it matter what size the hose is? Standard garden type hose it appears to be. I guess I can just measure what is on there and buy accordingly. I think that will work and don't have to worry about a lever on the sprayer either.

What is the pressure like on it? Does the head of it rotate so you can adjust it?

Also, what do you clean your live well with anyway so it won't hurt the fish?

These things will aerate better than the above water sprayers. The PowerStream aerator is the one in my Allison and it mixes air with the water going into the livewell.

The Power-Jet aerator is the one on my Ranger. It does the same as the PowerStream only it is mounted halfway up in the livewell, under the water level.

So you can mount the PowerStream above the water line, does it pivot around to spray where you want it to? The reason I ask is because that one looks like it would fit, but would be pointing back at the side of my livewell.

The PowerStream aerator usually points straight down. There is a nozzle that discharges the water outwards from the bottom of the tube. When working it looks somewhat like an aquarium aerator. Air is sucked into the water that is being pumped into the livewell. The discharge can be rotated on the PowerStream in any direction you want.

Plenty of bubbles and it seems to keep the fish better than a sprayer.

And it isn't that much difference in price really. Maybe four or five bucks. I think I will go with that one, thanks David.

Anything to make the fish happy. I bet you'll like it.

I checked these while at the lake yesterday. Both of my sprayers work. The only thing is, if both are open, then they don't have a whole lot of pressure. I have only one pump. Do I need to just get a bigger pump? I think the one that is in there is like 500 GPH. Would a 1000 be better? Just don't know if it is worth it or if I am just spending money when it isn't nessasary.
Thanks,

If you are going to just get a bigger pump try the 750. I think that many of the 1000gph pumps will have larger hose fittings.

Many of the older boats used one pump with one spray bar. My old Procraft did that.

You are probably right David. I think I can just upgrade to the 750 and get by fine. For that matter, just get one sprayer that will have a shut off valve and not use them at the same time.

Thanks for the help.

colder the water, the less aeration needed...ya could put this off till after the holidays if you wanted...or here's a neat trick - you might be able to fix it with a refrigerator magnet.

I've been using this method for a few years now with about 95% success...tear the page out of the BPS or Cabela's catalogue, circle the item(s) you need, and stick it on the fridge a week or two before your birthday and/or Christmas. Good luck! wink

Now that is funny!
I need to try that trick.

Yea, it isn't that important, unless I plan on fishing a tournament or something.
