FW51 What didn't you like about the ABU 276. I bought 3 of the 476 from FFO on clearance and they were complete junk. The 276 I have seen at Walmart actually look to be better built than the 476 but I was scared to try them after my last experience. I have 3 or 4 old Zebco 33 the ones made in the USA. They are great. The new ones I have not heard great things about except the ZO3/ZO2

Zebco Omega Z02 and Z03.

A little pricy for a spin cast but worth the money.
One is smaller and lighter than the other. But both built solid.

The Omega Pro is a great one. Zebco 202, that's funny. A 6" bluegill would give you a battle. I used to sell them in the mid 70's with rod for $3.75. Kids didn't care as long as they worked and catch some small fish on them. If they tossed them overboard or slammed the trunk on, who cared. Anyone remember the Garcia 505's? Made along the time the Garcia 170's spincast came along. Underslug to compete with spinning reels but rather than a bail there was a disc on the front that you merely tapped to release pickup pin before casting. I would love to find a couple of those in good shape for some kids. Seen any?

I just bought 2 more 33 and a couple of 202's. I cant stop buying these things and cleaning them up. I like to use them for my kids or when someone wants to go fishing they can use them fairly easy and abuse them and my good gear is safe at home.

I used to love the old Zebco 33. The ones made in the US. Unsuspectingly, I bought a cheap Zebco 33 for myself and a 202 for my daughter this year. They were junk. Good thread, I would still love to get a spin cast reel for pond fishing. I'll check out these suggestions.

It has to be over 10 years ago, I would suspect. My Mother In Law and I fished a lot in Florida, I got a couple Omegas and Ugly sticks for her, spooled them up with 15lb line and they caught a lot of fish, fresh and salt. She used them until she got to sick to fish, recently I saw on a facebook picture that one of the grand kids are fishing with those same rigs.

Abu Garcia made an Abumatic in a couple different sizes, I had a few for my kids when they were little. Don't know if they still make it or not.

Still have and guess will keep two Zebco 33's. Simple to use and if have someone fishing with me that is not used to spinning or bait caster...load the Zebco on the boat! Problem solved..

I'd go with the Diawas. Best thing to do on a spincast is to remove all the crappy line that comes on them and run a Qaulity Low Memory line and change it regular - every 6 months. cheers
