I am about to buy a "new to me" stratos 282. it has two HDS 8 gen2 units that are linked. I have never used a unit like this (had 520c units) and to be honest I am a little worried about it. however my first question is simple.

My friend has a HDS9 i think and he plays the radio using his unit. He told me that if I get this boat and I get me at least one speaker I could do the same. Now I doubt it is that easy because I do not see the speaker just wireing up to the HDS unit. However I have seen and heard his. so can someone explain to me how this would work?

Say i bought me two boat speakers and had them mounted. What would I need to do so that i could play the local radio, satellite radio(with subscription) , MP3 player etc..

thank you!

You may need the sonic hub for stuff to work on those units. Do those units have lss transducers? If not then you might be better served buying at least one and do a bunch of scanning, recording, and marking.

I do not know what it comes with. its on a boat I have only seen pics of and did not know the right questions to ask. I only know that they are linked together so one map chip in one unit will work in both units was how is was explained to me. so they share info. as for any hub or extra transducers i do not know. Oh wait he said it comes with structure scan and Point 1. which he said was a upgrade or extra that he had to buy for the units. does this help?

Structure scan is a big + the Point one is the best of the best gps antennas. You might want to talk to a dealer or lowrance to find out about the speakers. I'd definitely find out before I spent any money on speakers.

In order to play music from your iPad, iPhone or cell phone, etc. you need to have the "sonic hub" connected to your NMEA network. Since you have the point 1, the NMEA is already there so you'll just need to add another T connector to the sonic hub once it's added to the "network"...

Here's a link to the sonic hub w/ speakers.
