When fishing in Fob Bottom at Texoma, it was suggested to me to use stink bait. I have tried using sponge treble hooks, and also without the sponge. Either way, it never stays on very well. Should I try using the kind with the spring attached to them?

If it is cheese based like Chemdawgs cheese dough, or stubbys keeping it cool helps a lot! I use Chemdawgs Personly and I keep it in my cooler as I fish, it stays firm enough to cast. What are u using? How are u fish it?

No stink bait will stay on hook for a long time. Just tha' nature of tha bait...
You are looking at 5-10 min max...then, re-bait.

Mix in some cattail fluff. That's about all you need to do besides mind the temp. And moisture.

I tried Stubby's for the first time this morning. No problem keeping it on the hook. At daylight tossed the first line and got a hit immediately. Tossed the second line off the side of the yak and raised it up just a bit, got a 12" cat. Few minutes later hooked into something big, never did get it to break water, guess it got tired of playing and tossed the hook at me. Then came the rains. Two 4-5' gar played beside the yak, bites died. When I was sitting in an inch and half of water decided to come home and will try tomorrow. Love how that stuff grabbed onto the hook and stayed.
My personal best is still swimming out there just getting bigger. One of these days I will quit feeding it.

You are looking at 5-10 min max...then, re-bait. This is the best answer. after a while it just breaks down even more so in this hot weather. Like said before try to keep it cool,if it is not a fiber bait. put it in your cooler while you fish it helps a lot I can keep mine on the hook for bit but it does fall off afar a while

CJs punch bait, you dont have to touch it,dont have to worry about putting it on a cooler, enough bait will still be on the hook after a catch to reel another one in, super effective, what else can you ask for with this bait available.

From my experience, the spring-treble hook is consistently the best for the majority of punch baits with large chunks of crud in them.

Ok, Danny Kings and CJs will stay on hook better and you will catch fish. It is my opinion that you will catch more fish on Stubby's and I have proved that to myself. That being said I do carry a punch bait Danny Kings in my boat for the very hot days.

Stink bait isn't supposed to stay on the hook. The design of that type of bait is to disolve and disperse throughout the water to draw fish in. But if you're bait is desolving before you get a bite then you're probably fishing in the wrong place.
"Life is a matter of luck and the odds of success are in no way enhanced by extreme caution." - Erich Topp, German U-boat Commander, 1943.
When in doubt, set the hook.
