I just moved to Oklahoma City and have never fished any of the local lakes. Anyone know of a good crappie hole within an hour of the metro? Or do I have to drive down to Texoma to catch slabs?

Hefner and Thunderbird have crappie. Good numbers of fish but not much size. Plenty of good lakes in that area.

Good luck!

Anyone have any information on Purcell or Pauls Valley? They are small lakes but had heard they held nice crappie several years ago.

I'm in between Tx and OK for a couple more weeks. Will be in the Ardmore area after Sept 15th.
Don't know anything about the OKC area lakes but, I'm thinking about Lake Thunderbird east of Norman. You need to get on [censored] and go to the state section and check out OK on there. Lots of good info on most all lakes up there.
Many better lakes in the eastern part of the state from north to south. I'm looking forward to trying them all out as soon as I get settled.
PM me and keep in touch and hopefully we can meet up and wet a line together!

I lived in that area for about 20 yrs. Lake Thunderbird used to have some serious sized black crappie (it did in the 80's anyway. Try the timbered coves on the north side of the lake.
