A compression test is relevant to how the test was accomplished. Was the motor warmed up first ?, was control at full throttle ?, the type and quality of compression gauge will cause different results. On this motor I would want 100psi and all cylinders within 10psi. It is very possible you have bought some fuel causing the detonation or you have carbon build-up. I would guess your hearing the reeds. Total timing needs to be checked periodically on all motors. I purposely set the timing 2 degrees slower than factory settings because of our fuel nowdays.
