Man that's awesome. I had one steal a rod off of the deck once, I left a blue flek power worm hanging over the side, it had been there for a while too, at least 20 mins. I heard the splash and saw the rod do a flip into the water. Never could find it either.

Ive had this happen with a spinnerbait before although it was just barely in the water. Ive had several times where a bass waited until I had my buzz bait right at my kayak to strike and also had one bass strike at the buzzbait 3 different times and finally hit it good right at the kayak. The ones right at the boat are heart stoppers for sure!
One other time I had something crazy like this happen was with a texas rigged Grande Bass Megatail. Got it hung on a laydown in shallow water. Paddled up to the hang up and had to reel all the way down to the bait to get it loose and was lifting my rod out of the water when a bass struck it! Luckily was quick even to hit the thmub bar and let some line out and was able to land the fish. THAT was crazy.

2 words... Arbogast Buzzplug. Floating buzzbait designed to get blown up just like this!  Also if you youtube search "bass fishing sweeping method" you'll find a guy who just drifts and paddles along reeds and such and brushes short line buzzbaits along, pretty fun method for sure!
