I've been working on getting the bugs out of my motor. Done good but now acting squirrelly. When start, it'll run until I put in gear then dies. Won't start for a bit then does. Again I let it run to warm up but when put in gear it stalls. I'll do this a few times until I get it to stay running while in gear all the while trying to hot throttle it and what not.

One friend suggested it might be running rich. Looked up the topic and don't think that's it but I could be wrong. Another buddy suggested spark plugs which I'll check.

I'm getting closer to having this nailed down. Any suggestion would help.

1997 Mercury Marine Force 90-hp

What have you done to it?

Motor has been serviced. Carbs cleaned.

Needs idle air adjustment. Check and clean air bleed valves. Replace manual fuel pump diaphragm. Do a carbon cleaning.

I have been having pretty much the same problem with my 95 Mariner 200efi. I have taken in a few times and could never figure out the problem. Checked stator, trigger, rectifiers, power pack, fuel lines, fuel pump, throttle position sensor, port temp sensor. All check out good.

Turned out to be worn out reeds. Ended up sending the injectors to be cleaned and replaced the reeds. Runs like new boat.
