Currently own a Hobie Revo 13, want to purchase a paddle kayak for primarily fishing costal areas and lakes. Considering the Tarpon 160, Jackson Kraken, 2015 Ride 135 with new seat.

Have demo the 2014 Ride with elevated seat and the T160. Don't know if the seat on the 2015 Ride is worth spending the extra money compared to the 2014 ride which currently is closeout price. Don't think the Jackson will be available till October.

Needing suggestions and input.

I guess you want something for the flats that the mirage drive won't handle? What are the shortcomings of using the Revo as a paddle boat that you are trying to overcome - better seat, faster boat, more stable boat, other?

Agreed - the Revo is a great PADDLING boat as well. Probably one of the best.......though not quite as stable as the Ride135

Also - the 2015 seat will be available as an upgrade for the 2014 Ride 135 so you could have the bvest of both worlds..... a boat now...... and the upgrade seat if you choose later.......all for about the same as the regular Ride 135 2015 pricing......

Also - Santa Cruz is a good option for demo - after all.....you never can tell!

You're kind of going down two separate paths. The Tarpon 160 and Kraken are efficient designs for covering open water. The Ride 135 is more stable suitable for flats, although it is capable of open water paddling.

Where are you planning on fishing?

2014 Ride will be at closeout prices and with upgraded seat, $350.00, is slightly less than 2015.

You need to check out the Tarpon 140 for the marsh. It's perfect if you want to paddle.

I own two Revo 13's and fish the marsh on a regular basis. It works for me but that T140 is hard to beat for a paddle boat.

Would a T160 be impossible for fishing the marshes and tidal creeks?

I fish the marshes, sloughs, and creeks from Corpus Christi to Port Lavaca from my Perception Search 15 (15' 2" 28.5" beam) without a problem. The only time it's a hassle is in tight, narrow turns that even the Tarpon 140 would have issues with. Having said that the Tarpon 160 does track a little better than my Search, but I wouldn't think it would be much of an issue.

Definately NOT. The 16' length can be cumbersome at times when you need to make tight turns.. which is why I prefer the 140. Plus the T140 is perfect for "crab walking" (side saddle creep) marshy banks for a super stealth approach. Longer yaks require a lot more effort for that approach.
