I am looking for a little advice... I have 4 Dobyn's Savvy casting rods that I love and have caught a ton of fish on over the past 4+ years (734s & 735s) - the cork on the butt caps (on the split grips) is showing some wear and I was wondering if could remove only the cork butt cap and replace it with an EVA cap like the ones I have seen on the Mudhole website - http://www.mudhole.com/Rod-Building/EVA-Butt-Caps/Tapered-EVA-Butt-CapsAny help would be appreciated - thanks!

Nice find - those would be a cool addition - but I still need to figure out if it's possible to take off the existing cork butt caps and swap it out.
Thanks

I need the buttcap with the rotating line weight indicator.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it !

Very easy. Just use pliers and break the cork off a little at a time and then use a heat gun to soften up the glue and scrap off any remaining glue. You can just use the heat gun enough to loosen up the whole cap. Measure the diameter of the rod butt and order your new cap.

Thanks for all the info - I called the folks at Dobyns and Dan was very helpful in explaining the construction on the butt of the rods and how the plug on the end with the DR logo actually extends into the blank and help balance each rod so it would be very difficult to remove the cork butt cap without damaging the rod - that was good enough to discourage me to try the swap...
Dan did recommend a product by AccuCull called Grip Saver - a shrink tubing you can use to cover and protect rod grips - so I ordered some from TW (along with enough baits to hit the magic $50) and will use that to cover and protect the worn cork on the butt caps of my rods...
