First and foremost I would like to say it was such an honor to fish in the Cup. Thanks to all the guys on the TFF for y'all's support. I even heard they were having a watch party in store at Anglers Pro Tackle!(Thanks Rick & Patti) As far as fishing patterns went..... Blue Back Herring lake bass in the summer are constantly on the move. The window to catch them feeding is about the first 2 hours of light. The other very odd thing about these fish is they do not eat a lure deep in their mouth. (No idea why) Day 1 I ran 4 spots very quickly before I found the fish. I was fishing a fluke over submerged islands. I caught 2 & jumped off 3. I only had 5 and a half pounds. That put me in 31st place out of 45 with the top 20 cut happening the following day. ***Day 2 was much better I had 12 and a half pounds. The 3rd largest stinger on day 2. The decision I made to throw an Xcite XB-1 silent square bill in ghost minnow color over those those islands was THE reason I made the cut. Day 3 I ran to my crank bait spots only to find no fish there. Herring moved and bass followed. I found them schooling about 2 mile down lake over 15-50 ft of water. I used a Sammy & Fluke. I pulled off keeper after keeper on camera. I finally look at my observer who was keeping track & ask how many keepers I lost? He said 10. Lol It wasn't my day but a heck of an experience. I read that the FLW coverage wasn't the best. While not arguing that, they run a great event where God and Family are still a part of fishing. All in all 17th place was not a bad week for a bass club guy. interesting report James! I was thinking last week I wonder if anyone catching on a fluke. sounded like a good bait for the conditions. turns out at least you and Ehrler were throwing one. the Cup has me motivated to Co the Tour again. will be fun to watch you through the season next year.
