I wish to fish the Guadalupe towards the end of September and visit San Antonio (Alamo). I know that many of you have fished and do fish the Guadalupe. I wish to stay in a cabin on the river for six people. Will be treating my grandsons to some fly fishing for gills bass and whatever is available. Would appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

Go to the website of the Guadalupe River Chapter of Trout Unlimited ( www.grtu.org). Click the "Ads" tab on the home page and scroll down to "Guadalupe River Businesses." That list includes several sources for accommodations, with the added benefit that the businesses listed there are good citizens of the river, finding ways to give back to help steward the resource.

Check out Rio Raft and Resort. They have some cabins we've stayed in. Nice place.

Mountain Breeze Camp Site is located right on the river. There are cabin rentals there. Late September is a great time to stay there. The camp is located on River Road outside of New Braunfels. Not far from San Antonio.

There are many places to stay from basic to luxurious: Mountain Breeze, Maricopa, Rio Raft, Treehouses, The Hideout. If you want to do some Trout Fishing I would recommend waiting till early December at the very least. The stocking program, both TPWD and GRTU, does not start till then and not many Trout will make it through tis summer's heat. There might be a few still left in the river in September but they would be no further downstream than Rio this year because of low flows and high temps. If your going in September I would target Bass and Perch mainly. I would also not limit fishing to just the upstream portion of the River but would consider fishing all the way down to Gruene. Good Luck!

Jimbo, my fly fishing is for warmwater species, trout are not my goal. A rustic but comfortable cabin will do for us.

I was thinking of a three or 4 day vacation to fish, explore and visit the area and the Alamo. A central HQ then drive around??

San Antonio would be a good base from which to operate with waters like the salado creek as well as the San Antonio River. I caught my first Rios on the viaduct at Espada Dam off the mission trail. If you want to venture further out cibolo creek holds pure strain Guafalupe Bass. Further still is comfort and kerville and other fishable sections of the .
