Hop does Duko oil company in Emory sell premium ethanol free? I know Minnow Bucket sells regular ethanol free. And I don't know what grade Lake Fork Marina sells.

no ethanol free anywhere close in premium, star mart has regular but last time i looked it was almost 4.00 a gal.

I will have to check duko, if they have premium non corn squeezins I will go there.

anglers one stop is almost 4 a gal for regular too, minnow bucket does not have non ethanol anymore, gassed up there after the high school tourney.

Corn s corn but he's askin' grade. If your not runnin' compression, timin', any kinda modifications or NOT FACTORY recommended that warrant tha higher grade, its a waste. Might not perform quite as good either.......Just "upin'" tha grade ain't gonna do squat 'cept play with ya mind an lighten tha billfold even more!

I run 140 lbs on milled heads so I run 93 octane. Everything I have heard is premium is a waste of money on a stock engine unlesss manufacturer calls for it. There are some people on the Tacoma forum that swear the 4.0 V6 runs and gets better MPGs on premium. Some of them are comparing regular with non-ethanol 93. Not a good comparison.

Here's some food for thought.

If your engine has computer controlled variable timing, then yes, running premium "could" show some performance improvements. If the timing advances until a knock sensor tells it to retard, then it could run a few degrees more advance with a higher octane fuel. How much more timing could it run? That would be the million dollar question, and the performance gain would be relative. But is it enough to feel, or see on a speedometer? I seriously doubt it.

Just asking, not trying to start a fight.
Up to 35% ethanol? How do you know? Is there a do-it-yourself kit available for testing at the pump? Current gummint regulations specify one of 3 options: pure gas, max of 10% ethanol, and max of 15% for the so-called flex-fuel vehicles...as posted on the pump as required by law. Wouldn't higher percentages of ethanol therefore be illegal, with accompanying felonious penalties? Wouldn't higher percentages open up dealers, distributors and refineries to huge civil liabilities (them lawyers got to do something when there aren't ambulances needing chasing)?

My 1c to the OP: For my outboard Mercury says minimum 87 octane with max 10% ethanol. I use only pure gas, and 87 octane when it's available, 89 on the one occasion they ran out of 87. Depending on the day, I pay 12-20c more per gallon than I would if I got 10% at the station across the street. But it's worth it to me just for my peace of mind if nothing else.

Fishing, a man knows a serenity of soul and peace of mind that he finds in doing nothing else, and it makes no difference whether or not he catches anything. The mind of a true fisherman is not on petty subjects.

mac the ethanol is added at the truck, this means it can get messed up from time to time and could even be a distributor trying to save a few cents a gal.

you can self test, couple of methods discussed in the other thread.

That's true and untrue at the same time. Ethanol CAN add performance under the right circumstances, high compression, lots of spray, lots of boost because it burns cooler and resists detonation under load.

10% ethanol does none of that, it just attracts water.

Running more octane than your engine requires costs you performance, there is no debate, question, or argument about that from anyone who has the slightest clue how an internal combustion engine works. Octane produces no additional power whatsoever, it simple controls combustion better when there is more compression, the ability for valves or fly cut pistons to hot spot, or a whole lot of ignition timing.

Running high octane in something designed for 87 actually decreases power because due to the slower burn, combustion is slowed to completion to a point past optimal for the highest cylinder pressure the motor was built to take.

The only exception to this is older motors with a lot of carbon build up may eventually start to ping (preignition/detonation) on 87 because the buildup in the combustion chamber has artificially increased compression and it needs more octane because of it.

Running high octane in something not designed for it for fuel mileage, power, or less ethanol is a wives tale.
