Next year I am taking my father and son smallmouth fishing somewhere up north. We need this to be an easy trip due to my elderly father. Fly in hopefully somewhere close, rent a guide for 2-3 days, and then fly home. Does anybody have any good contacts or personal experiences with guides that they would reccommend?

We have went to Canada several times on our own hauling boats. We would cross at International Falls, Minn and go to either Lake of the Woods or Rainy Lake. This is similar to what I'm looking for but wanted to stay in the states and make it as easy of a trip as possible. Our trips were always at the first of June. We would like to keep a similar time frame for 2015.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Okie cheers

Gerry Gostenik --- one of the best around. We just returned from a trip in early July to St. Clair. Caught fish and had a great time.

If you end up in Lake Michigan near Chicago, try Ralph Steiger. Very popular guy around Chicagoland for smallies. Easier of a trip due to location but the scenery might be a little different than what you were expecting from the sound of your post.

If you want to be around Buffalo and fish Erie you can get with Jim Hanley. Good guy to hang out with. Have fished with him 3 times.

Last year I fished off Green Bay Stuergon Bay and Northern Door County. BASS ranked it #1 this year. This year i fished Traverse Bay, Michigan which BASS ranked #8 or so. Both trips never caught Smallie over 4, but easy 50 fish days. Of course you hear about the 5-6 pounders caught yesterday and the 7-8 pounders caught last week. laugh

Later on my PC will give my guide contacts. I would probably do Traverse City because short boat ride, mostly protected, amd plenty of guides to do something different each day.

Green Bay/Sturgeon Bay/North Door County - Bret Alexander

He's probably the best at big Muskie, but also good at Walleye and Smallmouth. I would go here if wanting a few days of different fishing.

Out of Traverse City, usually stay in protected bay, nice city with other stuff to do. I think early June is the perfect time to go and I'm trying to get back there about then. Like you would multiple days at Fork with guides, I would maybe suggest a different guide each day. Another big guide there is Chris Noffsinger http://www.northernadventuresfishing.com/.

Easy access and great fishing try lake St. Claire. It is minutes from the Detroit area and great smallmouth and muskie fishing. Several guides on the lake, but for smallmouth I would go with Art Ferguson. For muskie it would be Steve Jones.
