It must be a West Coast thing. I have fished for sailfish and smaller tuna in Mexico and have seen the setups of professional charters down there and mono was pretty much the line they use. An extreme example are the fishermen in the "Wicked Tuna" show. They all use mono to catch their $8,000 tunas and they don't troll.

Commercial operations use mono because of cost... At least that is what the ones I have fished with tell me. Mono has worked for years and is still working. And so does braid...
