I am taking my 6yr old son to Hubbard this week before he goes back to school. I am trying to get him "hooked" on fishing so looking for some hybrid/sandy action (or even crappie) ...but haven't fished Hubbard in years. Anybody have thoughts on where to try near I30 bridge and what type of lures? Don't want you to giveaway your spots but general area and pattern would help. Don't worry -my passion is black bass fishing and typically fish lakes in E Texas (fork, Monticello, Toledo bend) but it is too hard for a 6 yr old

Tons of reports on here lately I have been trying myself to fish that lake, only been twice. evening is better than mornings lately it seems, bridges, points and mid lake humps basically, seems like they are in different spots alot so not a regular pattern from what i can tell, much like the rest of the lakes, it is a "shoulda been there yesteray thing" lol

I have fished one spot at the bridge on multiple occasions that has produced every time. It's not alway a ton of fish but always catch a handful of sandies and an occasional hybrid.

From the south side of the Bass Pro bridge facing the bridge, starting from your right (farthest away from Bass Pro) look between your second and third "no wake" bouys. About 30 yards south of the bouys is either the old creek bank or old bridge abutment (I think here is an old washout or borrow pit around there as well). If you have a fish finder, it will be pretty obvious. I always fish chartreuse or white slabs along that structure. Most often, due to boat traffic I assume, the fish have been close to the bottom so I jig horizontally. In other words, cast out and bounce the slab off the bottom as your reel it back.

Like I said, not a ton of fish but always some fish. I have gone here with my kids multiple times and have never been skunked. It's easy to get to but you will need know how to set up a drift in your boat, anchor up or use a trolling motor because the south wind will push you under the bridge after about two or three casts.

Don't tell anybody. It's a secret spot. LOL.

Lots of hits and misses this year for hubbard for me. Evenings have been better. That spot recommended by Selfish1 is good for the summer. Old times call that the 3rd buoy but the buoy is missing after the 'Rodney king' VIP incident

The Rockwall bridge has some also. But fish are very scattered this year. The gravel pit down south is good also but still hit and miss lately. Try jigging a one of slab off the bottom, fast is better now, and your boy will catch something. Yellow bass are plentiful and fun for kiddos IMO.

To get out of the heat try under the bridges for some Crappie along the pillars about 12' deep jigging jigs. What the others have said is the 6th pillar from the right, there is a hump out there and the fish hang off the edges. it has been hit and miss. Mid morning has been the best.
