Anyone fishing this mud hole. Thinking about going on Wednesday. I haven't been there in over a year at least. Think the last time I was there I could still launch at South Shore.

If you go please report back, I haven't been either and I'd love to know how it looks. Don't try South Shore it's too shallow and covered with silt. I want to go just to go look at the deep pits around Naylors Pond & such.

Taking a buddy that has never BASS fished before... just a scouting trip to run the Skeeter and look around. I know there are plenty of white bass to catch on a rattle trap near the damn and such, just curious if any one else has fished it.

I thought I read somewhere of some hazards near Calaham ramp so just asking around.

My bro in law has been a few times and he said there is a long shallow point in front of the Callighan camp shelters (between the rock jetty and Callighan point). I know there used to be a marker buoy but the way he sounded he almost stuck his bay boat.

Also a lot of real shallow water between Huisache island and Callighan point.

I figured this will be an IDLE trip until I get familiar with things. I am NOT taking the bottom off my Skeeter. The Best GPS and Depth finder doesn't show that stump right under the water!!!!

You would do better tap dancing in a field of land mines than putting your boat on that lake. You better be idling or you'll be tearing something up. Just saying.

Boat troubles...... Fished about an hour total. Had problems with my TM batteries. Either one did not charge last night or ended up with a dead cell on the trip up there. Only caught one dink on a Trap near fourfinger. The water actually looked good. LOW but good. I spent most of the morning just looking around the lake. Launched at Calliham and went south. Ended up all the way back up at Mason Point looking around.

There were a couple other bass boats on the water but didn't get to ask them if they were catching anything.

I hit something at the end of the boat ramp when trying to put my boat on the trailer. Looking down the ramp it was on the left side, but inside the dock. Don't have a clue what it was and it was too far out to be the concrete ramp. Who knows. I did put a good nick in my lower unit.

I have a bunch of coordinates that I am going to put in my 1198, but looking thru them and comparing them to Google Earth they are off or google earth is off. I hate to install a bunch of bogus info.

I did see the WELL head at the end of the point just out of Calliham. It is right on the rocky bank, but could do some serious damage if hit. It is currently out of the water and about 6'.

Looked for a couple of Culverts that my navionics chip claims are there. They are not. One being on the road bed in the back of Salt creek near the Calliham boat ramp. I went down the entire road with my 1198 and there is NO defined creek or Culvert.

Good luck.

Yeah I've searched for those dang culverts for many hours and they are apparently just a guess from Navionics. Even the "bridges" between Huisache & South Shore ramp are marginal at best.

The well head at Callighan, yeah bad and there is also 1 in Opossum creek and as well as a giant block of concrete out in the middle of the creek when the lake is about 10' higher.

Sorry to hear about the lower unit nick.

Me and a friend went about one week ago and fished at night. The fishing was pretty good, caught 22 fish with several keeper fish. Best five weighed around 18 pounds. My friend lost one that was in the 9 to 11 lb range. We caught all of are fish on 10 in worms and jigs. We also stayed until daylight and caught 4 fish on spooks.

What are you talking about???? Fishing is patience, I stopped tourney fishing 20 years ago because I got burned out on it. And disgusted with SOME of the folks fishing. I hate it when some tourney guy flies in to a cove I am fishing and comes up close enough for me to cast in his boat. Not just blaming tourney people....NO Manors is rampant here on the salt water too.

Yea there are just a few sticks exposed now but if you are careful you will be ok. What I hit at the end of the ramp was NO stick. It was pipe or concrete but I thought too deep or far from the bank for crete. I guess if the ramp levels off out there it could have been crete.

I might have to try the night fishing. I have never really done that since I was a kid on Coleto. I did get to mark a few spots on the GPS and plan to do some more when it cools off a bit. If this lake would just come up 5 feet it would flood so much grass.

I did not see any grass in the water.

God I miss that place. I guess I took for granted how good we had it in 2006-2011.

There is a small drain into the main possum creek channel where it makes the big curve 30 yards or so south of the 99 bridge. I caught a 8-11 off the biggest hardwood where the drain hits the channel there flipping a jig in 2008. He ate it off the bottom in 11 feet of water. I was by there in early summer of this year for work and that tree is a mile or so from water with about 6' of tall weeds underneath it. It honestly made me sad.

Jb-just curious, were you guys on a deep structure pattern or what?

No we fished main lake points in 5-15 feet of water.
