Does anyone have a good recipe for a panfish pattern, particularly one that has some flash to it? I'm just not sure how to craft a fly that is tall and skinny like a panfish, they all end up looking like a normal streamer.

You mean like this? This is one the instructor did a couple of weeks ago.

There are some good tying ideas to inspire here: https://www.youtube.com/user/flyfishingtheozarksHe does this thing where he ties in the material pointing towards the eye and then folds it back and secures it. Hard to describe. But it makes it look fat.

Either tie all materials on top of the hook or just keep adding material thicker (stacks).
BUT trust me you don't want it too thick on bottom.
Also get some thinning scissors to trim the material. Give it that tapered look.
I use EP fibers and Congo Hair.

Also use shorter pieces of material. Not so long. It will stand up better. And don't wrap back to far over it...more you wrap the more it lays down. Just wrap the tips.

Very interesting video's, plenty ideas, I reckon almost any fibre material could be tied back like that. Love the Copic air brush too.

Not real simple, tho. A lot of stacking and trimming. I should clarify, they aren't difficult to tie, just tedious and time consuming. Kirk

This is one of my favs. Do these steps with any color combo you like. I also add lead eyes for weight. BUT this pattern looks breamish to me.
