pulled up to the south side of the Lewisville fishing barge as I started casting to the back corner some guy told me that there was a law that I had to stay 50 feet away. I told him that is BS!, then asked him where are the signs with the corp stamp on them? and he said it was the law, so I told him to prove it. He said that he was taking my numbers down so I turned the boat so he could get a good look at them and told him to go ahead and call the law I gave him my name and where I lived. He called somebody, I cranked up and went to the north side and fished around to the west walk ramp where he came out while he was still on the phone, you could hear that he could do nothing to stop me. I fished there for about another hour just to see if the law would come on out. This was about 1:30 AM, I asked him if Poncho Newton still owned the place and he walked away without answering me. This is the first time that has happened to me there, I have been fishing around that dock since 1996.

Some people take what little authority they have been given and let it go to their head.
Sounds like the case here.....

Haha! I love when this happens! Happened to me and my buddy on Sommerville once about 8 years ago! Old lady came out of the barge mad as hell and told us the tire reef around the place was to keep fisherman out lol
Here is a follow up question to this...I have fished a few lakes that have docks extending a pretty good distance out from the bank and they have ropes running from the end of the dock to the bank that block off a substantial area of fishing around the dock. Of course, I can cast over the ropes but isn't that technically impeding access to public water? I'm not well versed in the law by any means other than I know you can fish anywhere not specifically marked/bouyed off by an organization with proper authority and as long as you are not tied up. Any knowledge on this?

They have anchor cables submerged in the water. You may not be able to see them. Maybe that's what they are concerned about? Safety to the barge? I don't know. But I don't think that they are bluffing smoke.

Had the guy at the lewisville fishing barge tell me I couldn't fish on the bank. I was fishing the south side of the barge just minding my own business and the guy still threatened to call the cops on me. A bunch of BS if you ask me!

I think there are some states and some lakes (not any in Texas I know) that have laws against fishing too close to marinas. I believe this year on Beaver we had a rule about this, but don't know if a tournament, state, or lake rule.

hahaha! yea this is some funny stuff. I had a guy at the cut yelling at boaters passing by and fishing close to his 10 poles that were out and spread out wide and far. So I asked him why he is soooooo unset at everyone. He said he's had about 5 lines out get sucked up by passing boaters. I said well your fishing in a spot where it's the only inlet and outlet for boaters to pass on this lake. Also said since your lines are way out and covering just about the whole area yes you are going to have problems. Funny! Funny!

This happened to me on Leon in a Thursday night this year I found a 3 plus lb fish on a bed by her dock and she came out telling me it was her "daddy" fish... And that no one is allowed to catch it. I explained very politely that I was in a little tourney and needed it got fill my limit and we would release it after she refused and said if I caught it she would call the law... Luckily for me that sec he chocked the senko and I stuck that fish right in front of her! And won that night, think it's funny people think that can control where people fish on a lake.

I had the exact same thing go on at Lynn Creek marina on Joe Pool several years ago. Cops or game warden never showed up

You better watch out on them Oklahoma lakes Bissett, if there is a sign on the boat houses that states how far you cannot fish next to them you better believe it. Oklahoma laws are a little different. Murry used to have signs that stated no casting within 10 feet of boat houses, and they wrote tickets to those that did not follow.

My dad and I were fishing a BassChamps tournament years ago and we were in that marina and went between about a 8 foot gap between docks to get to the backside between the docks and the bank. Pretty soon a guy came down and started raising hell that we were back there. We pretty much told him it was public water and he couldn't do anything about it. He then goes up to his truck and brings back a big chain and proceeds to chain us in behind the docks where we entered (only way in and out) then he runs off. We start yelling at him as we troll over to the chain and find that he didn't use locks, he just wrapped the chain around the dock supports on both ends...I'm pretty sure his chain is still at the bottom of the lake.
