Joe Pool Lake has some big Bluegills. I catch an 8 inch fish every few trips. The spawn is winding down but they are still in the shallow water this far north. Later they will be around the docks.

If you want a trophy sized fish try Bluegill Lakes Cabins between Canton and Athens. A 10 inch fish is no great shakes there.

I thought all the fish in Fairfield died in the big fish kill several years back?

I lived between Athens and Tyler at a small lake called Callendar Lake about 90 minutes from Dallas. We used to drive over to the fishing dock on the backside of the lake, and cast worms suspended about 12 inches off the bottom about 30-40 feet out from the edge of the dock. We regularly caught 20-30 bream/bluegill the size of my hand or bigger. 10" bluegill were normal for us out in East Texas.

This spot would be easily accessible by float tube.

This thread actually got me interested in getting back out to East Texas private waters and the relaxed atmosphere. I just booked a two-night stay at Bluegill Lake Cabins for Labor Day weekend. Here's the cabin where we'll be staying, and some pics. of the ponds.

Looking forward to introducing my kids to catchin' a whole mess load of those little fierce fighters. Fun fishin' for sure!

Give a report back. The wife and I are also thinking about Rose's or the A-frame. I am thinking about Rose's because I heard it is the best fishing area and she is thinking about the A-frame because of the hot tub

Will do. The cabin pic. above is Rose's cabin. The man who runs the place said Roses's has a small hot tub. I'll post. pics of everything after our trip. Glad to hear the fishing' better by Rose's, but I still know nothing about the place in terms of structure.

I had originally preferred the A-Frame, based on pics., but I'm thinking this will be just as nice, and it has lots of room and outdoor space for my 3 kids and Bullmastiff. Pets are allowed which is nice. No fee to fish. Bring your own charcoal and wood for the fire pit. Each cabin has a full kitchen and a wall unit air conditioner. Porch lighting. Cash or check only. No credit cards.
