The wife and I love overnight catfish sessions on the lake. However, we need to figure out a lighting situation. Right now, we both use LED hat clips. Plenty of personal light, but attract the bugs like crazy. For spotting and navigating, we have one of those 2 million candle power spotlight things. What we want to set up is more of a shop light sort of thing. Something on a stand that we can turn on to provide plenty of light to the whole boat. We're thinking something red to keep the bugs away and something LED for lower power consumption.
How do you guys handle lighting on your boat? Pictures would be a bonus!

We fish overnight a lot also in warm weather- We have the strip led's inside and outside but mostly use the outside lights, they put out enough light for the inside also-we are on a toon-not sure what kind of boat you are on- Still get bugs when cleaner to shore though with my green lights-
What has happed to you does not define who you are-
HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!

Thanks Steve. I might just try the LED strips. We have an old bass boat so not quite the comfort and luxury of a 'toon. My other thought was to rig up a "T" out of PVC and mount some trailer lights on it, but I may need one for the front and one for the rear... and I'm still trying to figure out where I would secure it.

Coleman lanterns.... propane last a while and keep from burning up your batteries. Interesting suggestion, but I think I may want to stick with battery power. I've got the extra power already there in the boat and I have enough of it to run 200W of lights for 10-12 hours, which is more than enough.

I am in the process of trying to figure out how to power those porch cfl bug bulbs. Have them on the house and they work great. Says 23watts per bulb figured 4 would be plenty. Tested running the 50 gal. livewell and 400 watt converter on a small deep cycle and no noticable power loss until 4 hrs. Later. About the 7hr. Mark the cfls started flickering. Took a bulb out lost 20 percent of full bright at the beginning. I have short connections during these test. So with about a 20-25 ft. Run of 14g easy 2 amp loss. Now im gonna test with just three bulbs to see if I can offset the wiring run. Oh. Left out lights failed at the 9 hour mark which puts you into the next day light for those persistent fishermen!
My safety factor keeps me from adding 2 more weight stealing batteries and with the new 50 gal. Full and hopefully a winning full live well this nttc season I have to watch the calories lol.
And with lights, wire, bulbs maybe 3#

LED trailer light mounted on PVC pipe. Put it high in the air and shine down. Run it off a cheap motorcycle battery. Can get as fancy or as cheap as you want but it's simple, cheap and portable. One light on a 22 foot boat puts off enough light to fish with. Red lens solves most of the bug issues.

While fishing the POC jettys one night the party in the next boat over had flood lights on a mast that were powered by a generator. Plenty of light and plenty of noise. We were glad when they left.

I really want to do the LED strips, but I think I'm going to wait until after I replace the carpet and make a few changes.

I put a 16 ft strip of RGB LED's on an 8' PVC pole that fit into a vertical rod holder on my console. I can change them to any color I want and they plug into the cig lighter.

I don't have any pics of the light on the PVC at the moment. I will be off work Wednesday and try to get a pic then.
