I have not been doing well on Rayburn. Hope to slip away from work Friday morning for while. Was thinking of running over from Rayburn to Toledo. I've fished out of Big Bass and other areas but never on the far South End by the Dam. I wanted to look for some deep grass, try out my new downscan/spotlightscan.
I looked at the map and appears to be a state part off 255, but know nothing about it or any other ramps in the area. Was hoping to find a ramp off 255, one with easy access, good bank to load and unload by myself.
Everytime I drive down 255 and over the dam I want to fish that open water and figure there should be some good ledges and deep grass. It looks open like you can run all over down there by and around the dam.
Anybody know the skinny on the ramps or that end of the lake let me know.
Thanks Billy
Thanks, Billy

Jaret,
Thanks much, I think that is the one I saw on my map, but it didn't google, but I didn't try very hard either. I found it on Texas Parks and Wildlife site.
Thanks Billy
Thanks, Billy

Billy, the public ramp is on 255 about a 1/4 mile from the dead end. If you reach 692, you have gone too far. You should try fishing the two dam walls, which will be easy to find if you veer right coming out of the launch cove. The spillway also has nice deep structure and grass. This end of the lake is mostly obstruction free. Just stay near the bouys and you'll be fine. I may be out Friday morning so if you see a 90s model red Stratos give me a shout.

Hey Troy,
Thanks for the info, I may have to stay in Houston and pick my wife up at the Air Port on Friday, just found that out. May kill my plans.
I take it there is a set of bouys marking the boat lane or something, I need to look at my boat lane chip and see where they are. If you see a black and lime green 921 Phoenix that's me.
Thanks Billy
Thanks, Billy

Yes there is a set of bouys near the launch. They run north towards Tx island and beyond. They also run west and will bring you to the LA side of the lake. This area is basically obstruction free and 50-100 feet deep.

Very cool part of the lake. That area looks nothing like the other 90%

Only recently have I started going that way/255 from Rayburn. I've been to Big Bass Marina a few times and go 255. I passed over that part of the lake and it was like, Falcon/Amistad big wide open. That part of the lake is more like the South Texas lakes I fished in my past.
Looks like the water is fairly clear also or was the last time over it. I cant' wait to get out there and try out my down scan I just installed upfront/trolling motor.
Looks like I do not have to pick my wife up at the airport until 4 Sat afternoon, so I may get to fish Friday morning if I can get caught up with work.
Thanks, Billy

Yes, the water on the south end is very clear. I'll be out Friday morning so I'll keep an eye out for you.

The 255 public ramp is right by the old store "Shannon's. Also a big storage unit area on the left. The ramp entrance is between the storage units and old store. Plenty of good locations down there to catch a few. Great grass in Indian and Buck creek, just north of ramp a couple miles. Good luck.

Darold, thanks for the info.
I mapped it, google map and it was about 39 min from my place in Rayburn Country to turn off on 255. Not sure how far the ramp is off 255, didn't look far on the map. That's closer than some of the ramps on Rayburn.

Am actually thinking about heading to TB for the first time this weekend myself. Bro lives in Lake Chas, La. so gonna fish a bit and we were thinking about meeting at or near the same dam area boat ramp. I will be driving from SA, I have fished SR a few times, popped them pretty good and stayed at the Bass Buster Inn on RR255.
Anyone know if any hotels, cabins, etc. are pretty near the ramp on TB? Also appreciate the good info already in the thread and to say that I am looking forward to the wknd is a understatement!
Thanks, Everyone, for any and all info.

DBass, I'm not sure if Indian Creek Lodge still has rooms or is just a cafe now. You can give them a call at (409)565-4239 and see. The south end of the lake doesn't host near the amount of tourneys that mid & north lake do, so lodging is few and far between.
Billy, it is only 40 min drive from "The Stump" to this ramp so not bad at all. Good luck guys.
