This weekend I broke the skeg off my dad's trolling motor... That means I have no choice but to replace it. Whats the cheapest way to do it right?

Just replace that part of the housing (assuming parts are available.) If you have the broken skeg you can get it rewelded but I doubt it would save you any money over replacing it.

If you can't find a used trolling motor to swap the housing then I think you will have to buy a new one. Either way it's not cheap to pull everything out of the existing housing and install in a different housing. Making sure everything is sealed up requires a new seal set. If you have a boat dealer near you I would check to see if they have any junk units laying around you could pick up for the swap. You could also check with Jones trolling motors, google it or Marine Parts Plus.

what brand is it? if minn kota call 903 393 9500 and tell them what model it is and what you need. might even be better and cheaper to ship it to him and let him do the exchange.
