I use 10# or 12# invizx for all my fishing needs.

I would get some 15 and see how you like the way it casts compared to the 12 that you like to use. I personally like fluorocarbon line for most everything except top water. Just remember when buying line -- be sure to compare the line diameter. One brands XX tough 12 pound may have a larger diameter than brand Y in a 15 pound.

Unless you're fishing heavy cover, anything over 12lb is pretty overkill... I run 20lb fluoro for dragging bottom plastics, 10lb for cranking or anything else I'm just swimming pretty much.
If you're having break offs, use a net, tie better knots (or tie them better?), set drag properly, and work more patiently. The only time I have fish break me off is if a big girl catches me off guard and gets buried in grass matt too hard to work out, but I'm usually not on such light line fishing heavy cover like that unless I am fun fishing with just one rig out

12-15 for crankbaits. 15-20 for spinnerbaits. All fluoro and line size depends on cover.

For crankbaits and topwaters in open water I'm using 12 lb mono. I loosen my drag enough that they'll take line before breaking off.

I use mono for topwater only. 10#-20# depending on the bait, the cover and the size fish I expect to catch.
Most everything else gets fluorocarbon, including spinnerbaits.
I use braid for topwater frogs, rattletraps in grass (haven't had to do that in years) ARigs, some flipping applications and for all Camelot Bell applications.
Also, other than for deep cranking, I'm not big on loose drags. I keep mine hammered and adjust with the star as needed.

Also, other than for deep cranking, I'm not big on loose drags. I keep mine hammered and adjust with the star as needed. A functioning drag isn't a loose drag... it's an important tool for playing and landing bigger fish (without needing larger line). You don't really stand much to gain using a broom stick with dock line to drag fish in, but you sure do lose a lot of action, sensitivity, depth and perhaps bites on line-shy fish. It is also infinitely easier to adjust the drag tighter while playing a fish if needed (or to thumb the spool) than to attempt to loosen drag while playing a bigger fish. Usually really like your posts Fouz but this one has me Worth noting the pole you are using can have a massive impact as well... my veritas winch cranking rod doesn't need a lot of drag and even set high you wouldn't likely notice, as more parabolic rods give the fish less leverage and act as a shock absorber already vs my veritas 6' 6" spinning that is STIFF and without drag loosened I will have fish easily pop line with a hard jump or run in cover

Just what works for me. I don't like a properly functioning drag to slip when I set the hook with a worm or jig. I have no concern with losing a fish until I can get control of it and get it coming my way. I will them loosen the drag and thumb the spool near the boat, if necessary. P.S. - I'm typically fishing heavier line and don't own a fairy wand.

I try and set my drag according to how much obsruction is present in the water, i.e. trees, docks, etc. In open water I will leave it a little looser. Your drag shouldn't slip much if any at all on a hookset. I have lost big fish before because I didn't check my drag setting prior to using a rod that I might have been using around structure with it tightened down.

You've never seen my hookset. I've caught several hundred double digits. I think I'll stick with what works for me. Thanks.

I actually lock down the spool with my thumb on hook set anyways, and obviously everyone has their own methods that work. Just as a general rule of thumb, in a thread asking about line size and break offs... "keep mine (drag) hammered down" perhaps not the best general advice to give? lol
And I definitely know everyone has their own unique hook sets and mannerisms to learn and build upon from the basics... I for instance do not fair very well with "cutting point" hooks as I tend to rip long gashes with them and my hook set some how. Pinpoint hole in roof of mouth with bend squarely planted through = awesome. 2" long slit down roof of mouth with point of hook desperately clinging to roof of mouth = scary to land lol

Can't argue with that. Stick with what works for you.
