Hey guys I am new to the forum. I recently bought a new boat and am new to the area. I am active duty army and will be taking my father in law fishing on texoma next weekend. Just wondering if anyone had any pointers. I normally use slabs and top water poppers. Or white/yellow flukes with jig heads. Any pointer or locations would help thanks guys!

My weekend advice would be to get on the water early, was a mad house yesterday. Can't help with the fishing as we were just playing.

I'll second JRR's advice. It does get a little crazy out there on weekends and the wakeboard/ski boats have zero consideration for fisherman.

I tryed to fish yesterday and it was impossible. I'd recommend going early and/or staying late. You should get some topwater action if you fish the ledges and flats around the islands in 5 fow or less. Otherwise, id say to fish the thermocline with live-bait, downriggers or slabs in deeper water like the river channels, all the guides that i have seen are fishing the dam area of the lake around table top. Last time i went there must have been over 50 boats. They are mostly using live bait.

They back to using shad or still shiners ?

Shiners when you can get them and black salty's when you can't.

You don't say what size of boat or if you have gps with a mapcard. Texoma is still lower than normal. If you look at this web version of navionics, it would be safe to knock 10' off the readings on this chart http://webapp.navionics.com/?lang=en

Be carefull if you work the shoreline by the islands, lots of stumps and depth can change quickly. If the wind and size of your boat allows, working the Dam side is probably better, but the islands almost always hold fish.

I am far from an expert, but I have had good luck trolling umbrella rigs with white curly tail plastics or some type of shad body. For Live bait, the only place I know to buy it is the Tackle Box by Highport Marina. Plus they have just about every known striper bait and the prices are competitive.


I always put in at Highport, which can be super busy on weekends, but they are one of the few good ramps open. Don't assume the ramp you want is open, many are still closed due to low water .. call ahead.

Yeah sorry I have a Skeeter Sl210 20ft so just really depends on how windy but I do have a Humminbird 899 with the Navionics map card also. I went on a guide with Mr Shaw out of Highpoint marina several years ago when I came back from Iraq and had a blast and recently got put on recruiting duty here in Dallas so I have been dying to get back on texoma. Thanks for all of the tips. It looks like my father in law might not be able to go that far so I might be going to tawakoni instead. I went and got a couple umbrella rigs for trolling and a ton of slabs poppers and a variety of swim baits with jig heads so hopefully I come out on top! I will post some pictures after the weekend. Gizzard shad was super super easy in the coves around Cedar Mills last week. Most in the 3-4" range.
