Just curious as to what pound test line everyone uses for crank baits, spinners ect.... I'm currently using 12 pound test for my spinner bait rods and lost a good 6 pounder on Conroe at the boat from a quick flip of his tail. I realized after that my drag was set to tight on my new lews as to not allow the fish to take some line. Should I increase my line size or stay where I'm at with a softer drag setting? I like using a lighter line for ease of casting and feel 12# test should be plenty to handle a good size fish. Thoughts?

15 lb. copolymer (P-line CX Premium)

In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

15 lb. Invisx for me, but this will turn into a Ford/Chevy/Dodge (Fluoro/Big Game/P-Line) debate rather quickly.

I still use 12 lb. Mono (Big Game) for all top water applications excluding frogs and use 45-60lb.braid for them. Will use 12# big game as well with square bills as well as any other bait I want to retrieve near the surface including weightless senkos and flukes. For deeper diving crank baits I will use 15# fluoro for XD6 & XD10 type baits. For baits to be fished on the bottom such as jigs and Tx. Rigs I will use 15-20# fluoro depending on the type structure to be fished. The most important thing you can do to minimize break offs is to frequently retie your lure. Always clip off at least 6" to a foot of line and check for frayed spots prior to retieing.

I use:
15 pound P-Line CXX for spinnerbaits (yes it has a ton of memory but very strong in the grass)
and 12 pound CX for crankbaits.
