I interrupted this guy's sunning session yeaterday morning... he was stretched out on a rock soakin up some rays when I came along. Total length was ~3 feet. Looked like he just ate a big meal or two, cuz he was FAT from head to tail... Easily 2" thick at his fattest.

Really hard to tell, since you can't see the full body or the head/eyes very well.
But I am going to go with a banded water snake.

the stripes dont seem thick enough for a Banded Water Snake...but you are right...poor pic to tell.....my first thought was a Diamondback Water Snake...very similar coloring but not as pronounced.

Diamondback water snake. Nerodia rhombifer. Most common aquatic snake in most parts of Texas. If you see snakes dropping into the water from branches, it's probably these. They get big and mean, but are completely harmless.

They get big and mean, but are completely harmless. THANKS! This and this , which come up when I google that name, look very much like what I saw before he-she-it slithered off into the tall grass. There's (obviously) water nearby. I'll let the property owner know. Seen a few grass snakes out & about fishing, and darn near stepped on a copperhead while walking my dog this morning at Oak Point park, first poisonous one I've seen... been a snaky summer. Do not like. I'm always torn when I see a verified poisonous one: kill it or leave it be.
