So im planning to go on a deep sea fishing trip
i was looking into 4 different places, 2 in galveston and 2 in Port A
Port A seems to have charters that are 50 dollars more expensive(140)
while galveston has charters that are around 80

my 4 choices are
Galveston
Capt John
http://www.galveston.com/captjohn/plan.html

and
galvestonpartyboats
http://www.galvestonpartyboatsinc.com/pricing.html

Port Aransas are
Dolphin Dock
http://dolphindocks.com/5-to-12-hour-trip-info/
and
Fishermans Wharf
http://wharfcat.com/summer.htm

i need help choosing 1, id really like to bring on my own gear because i am told that the gear that charters provid is mediocre, ( i have a penn 6/0 with a boat rod)

id really like to hear from people with experience, ive used dolphin dock before and it was great but its pricy compared to galveston

My top two choices would be the New Buccaneer (Galveston party boats) and the Scat Cat (Fisherman's Wharf). The Scat Cat is closer to the fish but the New Buccaneer is faster. The Scat Cat has electric reels and might still be able to keep snapper. The New Buc can't keep red snapper but catches a lot of vermillion snapper. IMHO, the Capt John isn't even in the running for a variety of reasons and I've never fished Dolphin Docks but the boats have a reputation of being slooooow but good fish catchers

Pork chop on scat cat is great, I think he's gone now though and there is a new captain. I've been fishing with the wharf for 7 years or so and recommend them.

Deep sea headquarters is also good in Port A. they have faster boats than fishermans wharf and are good fishermen. They don't seem to be as friendly as the wharf though. Dolphin docks is one of the few I haven't went with before.

The best time I ever had in all the years was with fisherman's wharf when pork chop dropped us behind a shrimping boat that was culling shrimp. Caught boat limit of 2-3' sharks in an hour.

I'm doing the Capt John 36hr trip on August 13-14. Just a heads up their website has changed, you have the old website listed. You can see updated website with new pics/reports...I think its charterfishinggalveston.com
