I have an 02 GMC with the duramax/allison combo. tonight my truck wouldn't start. I jumped it and it started up but the allison wouldn't go into gear. I shifted it into gear and I got no response at all. what do y'all think could cause this? thanks!

Since it's an electronic control transmission, you should check all your fuses first off, battery voltage and charging.

It sounds like you may a leak and there is not enough fluid in the transmission to engage the low clutches, double check your fluid level. Does Park hold? Give me a call during the day and let's talk about it. 512-353-5186 Bob Jett.

low battery voltage? check your battery terminals for corrosion between them and the battery.

On the LCT-1000 series Allison and other GM transmissions Reverse & 1st gears are engaged by the manual valve moved by the shifter cable. If you have a problem with either gear it's either low on fluid, shifter cable, or a internal problem. I have seen first hand the transmission leak into the transfer case and start slipping. When you pull the fill plug on the transfer case it will be horribly overfilled. To fix that you pull the transfer case and replace the double lipped input shaft seal. Very easily done, give me a shout Jason I might know someone in your area that can help.

On an allison if it is an electronic problem with the valve body or prndl switch it will not go into reverse or forward. It is the only gm trans that will do this. All others will go into 1st or reverse with manual valve.

If the shift indicator on the console flashes when it does this I could almost promise you that is the prndl switch on the side of trans. I have probably put a hundred on for this same thing. The tcm will have a trouble code stored.
