Looks like most of you fish lakes, well the lower Guadalupe is one huge brush pile down both sides with fallen trees, limbs etc. Other than buying a hook factory to keep me in hooks what do you use or how to you fish fallen trees to get to the fish without having to put on a new hook every time cause you hung up?
Fishing in the channel is a bit better but not where they like to hide.
Tried 5 different baits this morning, home made bait, shrimp, liver, CJ's and Charlies Blood Catfish Bait. End result, shrimp two small cats, 3 turtles. Liver in elastic bag, ripped apart by gar, liver on treble hook stripped by gar and turtles, CJ's and Charlie no bites. Homemade bait same as liver, chicken thighs marinated in chicken liver for a week or two.
Which one of you took all the fish?

My personal best is still swimming out there just getting bigger. One of these days I will quit feeding it.

Have you tried fresh shad or perch. Not sure what you are targeting, but if you are looking for bigger ones fresh bait is a good place to start

Thanks,
Olen

What kinda hook and setup you using? For noncircle hooks where you have to set the hook yourself you could try a bassfishing trick of making a hook weedless by attaching a small rubber band like the kind used for teeth braces to where its covering the gap in the hook between the barb and the eye. Or you can do what i do and use obscenely high test braid (50+lbs) with 30lb test mono for leader. Only downsides are that its tough to break off line thats stuck without cutting it at the rod and sacrificing 100yds of expensive braid and that occasionally you drag up a large branch from the brushpile you got hung up on

I use a crippie rod 11 or 12 ft and a bantam reel. my main line is 20 LB test and a short leader hooked to a swivel that leader is 14 or 15 LB test I use a #1 kahle or a #6 treble. The reason I use a lower test leader if you have to break it you don't lose your swivel, weight, or float .
