 Side Imaging transducer thru hull mounting?

Like every one else it seems I always read a SI transducer needs to be external/directly in the water. Recently I'm deciding on whether to use my fishin buddy 120 or 598ci hd si unit on my tarpon 120. I found this recent post from someone who actually mounted the SI transducer in silicone thru hull and had good results: http://www.crappie.com/crappie/kayaks-canoes-and-other-small-watercraft/282505-imaging-kayak/Any thoughts/comments? I've been thinking about trying the same, as I would really like how clean the install would be.

use a transducer arm from RAM or Mad Frog and you can put it on and pull it off as needed. Thru hull on SI is not going to do well.

There have been articles posted on people mounting Side Image inside the hull. Yes the Side Image will work BUT the side image will not work as well. Mounted inside the hull will not allow as much detail to be seen. Not sure why anyone would spend the $$$ for SI and mount it in the hull.
