Been along time since i have been fly fishing . I use the eye hook with barbs that embeds in the end of the string . I wonder how do you tie your leads and flies to your string ??

Ron, I don't have time to answer in detail right now, but what you are looking for is commonly called the "fly line to leader" connection. Search on that and you should find a lot of information and options.
I have not seen one of those barbed, eye hook contraptions in many years. Not sure if they still make them.

I just used the method in the video below. It is pretty quick and easy, and you should have everything needed if you tie your own flies. Unfortunately, I cannot speak to its durability yet.

That loop in the line is a good way to. It's all I use. I'll add a bit more on the subject http://www.danblanton.com/blog/getting-looped/

a polamar knot would probably be the strongest but a clinch knot will do. I still have some of those little eye hooks; they work fine if I can get them in the line straight. jannsnetcraft still carries them-p- http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/fly-fishing-accessories/?page=2

Either the whipped loop or a braided loop. It depends if I remember I have the braided loops. Either way I put a drop of superglue on the end of the flyline to stop it from wicking up water.

As far as tying on flies I have started to use the Davey knot. I have always used the improved cinch knot for everything in the past but as I got older it has become a task. The Davey knot is not as strong but far easier to tie. It takes me a couple of seconds rather than a couple of minutes, LOL.

I agree on the Davy Knot. It's not failed me yet. I recently found a video on using the Perfection Loop to attach a fly.

Wow , lots' of good info in all replies here . Very much appreciate the help . Like I said it's been a long time but hopefully i'll get back into it soon . There's not a lot of people out west texas interested and Academy Sports hardly carries anything on Fly Fishing equip. I had a small box of maybe 20 flies I ran across in storage and when I opened the box and picked up a fly it just shredded , POOF , it was gone . So now got to find some replenishments of flies . But what I need now is learn how to tie some of those special knots so I can get my rig back up in shape . I do have a question tho . In the first video above the gentleman spooled some different line on his spool before spooling the Fly Line . What kind of line is that first line and what is the purpose of that line ?? Thanks everyone again for your help !

Hey Ron that is the backing added to the reel. It is available at any fly shop or online at basspro or cabelas. It is to give you extra line should you hook a large fish and to also keep the fly line from coiling in very small curles on the reel. It is nylon, typically in 20 lb. Look for fly line backing.

on some of my brim and bass reels I don't use backing. I cut some 3mm foam the size of the reel arbor so that it fits across and prevents the line from wedging between the reel and the foam. I wind a piece of it on the reel, taking up about as much space as I think is necessary to fill the reel, superglue the foam where it overlaps; tie on your line with an arbor know, wind it onto the foam and your in business. I've never had a brim or bass get into my backing; just remember which reels are so fixed so you won't take the wrong one carp fishing!!!-p-

I am not surprised that pearow has surprised again with a simple piece of brilliance. You probably also brew up some fine moonshine on the side as well.
