Haven't been crappie fishing at Aquilla since the late 80's. The only bait shop listed on the lake info on the TP&WD website is bad info. Anyone have any info on bait shops by Aquilla? We live in far north Fort Worth and don't want to haul our boat that far unless we can get some minnows. Anybody?

Someone posted here a short while back that the old burger place in Peoria closed but that the new business still had minnows. I haven't been out there in a while so not sure about that. If you're in N FW why not pick some up at Olsen's before you go? Otherwise, the closest place to Aquilla to get minnows that I know of is in Whitney. Good luck!

Thanks for the info! The problem with Olsen's is that they don't like to get up early anymore. 7am is late in my book. We may have to make a Sunday drive and go check out the area.

If you want minnows late or early, then you have to go into Whitney. Get them at that store at the "Y". From there, take 933 toward Waco about 5 miles or so and you will see near a curve, on the right, a silage pile. Take the gravel road (FM 2126)that turns to the left to the Old Schoolhouse boat ramp, about 2 miles or a little less. Look at this map then look it up on Google Earth so you can see what it actually looks like(shows the silage pits off of 933) https://www.google.com/maps/@31.8686898,-97.1715198,12z

Not sure why copying the URL does not show as a link. Just google lake aquilla, look at the map for the ramp in the aquilla arm. Sorry.

Thanks for the replies guys! We drove down Sunday afternoon to check out Aquilla and Whitney. First, the only bait shop we found was in Peoria on Hwy 22 & FM 1947 junction. The guy's main business is propane. He opens at 7:00am daily except Sunday he doesn't open until noon. Checked his minnows and they're more for bass, way too big for most crappie. We did find The Lamp Post on FM 933 in Whitney that opens around 6:30 daily with all sizes of minnows available. The school house ramp looked like the place to be, several boats were on the water and three trucks of bank fisherman. Busy place! The last time I went to Aquilla that road was paved!

Been here my whole life and the FM road going down to the old schoolhouse ramp has always been gravel. You would have to look long and hard to find a paved FM road in Hill County. Very rarely do they grate the washboard out of that road so you do often have to go slow or a trucks butt end will try to swap spots with the front.

All of the FM roads are paved, its the county roads that are gravel! I have heard that they have been doing fair fishing under the FM 1947 bridge. I may try it out this evening.
