I'm looking at purchasing a mid 70's (I believe) Chevy 1500 Classic with A/C. This is a two door, shortbed, with the squared off front end/grill. It has the venerable 350 with a 350 (turbo matic, I believe - or is it hydromatic? Hydromatics came later in life didn't they?) You can tell I don't know that much about it just yet. We're looking at it more closely tonight.
My question is the value of this thing fixed up. Right now, although it sounds mechanically OK, it needs cosmetic work - paint, interior, and most things an old truck might need. The guy said these things are going for a nice shiny penny when fixed up. Anyone in the know, believe this to be true????
This is for my girlfriend's 16 yr old boy - would be a pretty cool ride for a teenager, although I plan on keeping ownership.

$0.02 running in good shape(not "fixed" up)$2800-$3750. "new" motor and better shape $4000-$5000. completely restored $7000-$10,000. i have seen some restored + custom work higher but these reflect the prices i saw when i bought my '78 3 years ago. i paid $4800 and it had a newer 4spd auto trans. and very good shape. put a "new" Jasper motor in after 2 years, i would not sell mine (it aint for sale) for less than $7000. if the teen is paying for his own gas it might not be the best ride $ wise.

Good info. And thanks! About what I thought. The body is straight but in primer. The motor sounds strong and tonight we take it for a spin.
We're going to be able to get it for $1,500 and the first thing we are going to do is plan on spending whatever it takes to get the brakes and front end worked on. At least that way, we'll know he can steer and stop. Gas? Well, what can I say there? He'll just have to work harder to get around town.

To get a real good idea take a look at what's available on ebay for that year truck. You'll get a better idea at what people are paying for them.....
