Hey Folks...

My parents will be visiting from Hawaii this September to visit our daughter who is set to be born in mid-September. I wanted to start planning ahead to do some fishing with my dad while he is in town. He does a lot of shoreline saltwater fishing back home. The last time he was in town we did some catfishing at our local ponds as well as taking a guided catfishing trip up in Dallas while we were visiting my wife's family. We'll be exclusively in the Houston area this time around. I'm thinking about potentially traveling out to the Surfside Beach, Galveston, Texas City Dike areas (basically anywhere within a day's trip from Katy, TX). Unless we decide to go with a guide...we'll be primarily looking to fish from the shorelines, jetties or piers. I was looking to see if I could get some information as to what types of action would be ideal during that time frame so I can start doing the proper research on our target specie(s) and/or location(s). If anyone has any suggestions...please let me know.

Thanks!

Kawika

answered you on other thread before seeing this one. Red run normally starts around September.

Thanks...wanted to put just one post...but wanted to be sure to cover both the fresh & salt water folks. I'd love to get my dad on some Redfish while he's in town...I still haven't gotten one myself either... smile Last fall was the first time I tried surf fishing here in Texas...my friend was able to hook into his first red last fall...but no luck for me.

Keep trying, you'll get it. mid september it normally gets pretty good along the coast. I'm normally in Galveston around that time myself.

I definitely plan to head out there...even if just to throw the poles in the water. My dad's a long time fisherman...so he knows the difference between fishing & catching smile Are Jack Trevallies pretty common during that time of year too? I'm sure he'd enjoy hooking into a couple of those while he is here. It's one of the fish that are highly sought after back home...albeit a different type of trevally (i.e., giant, bluefin, etc.).

September is my favorite month on the coast. Even off some of the Galveston piers you can catch Reds, Specs, Sharks, Pompano and if the water is somewhat clear Spanish Mackerel.
