On those little 110 boxes there's only one way to weld, high heat and low wire speed. Then go real slow and weld in the puddle, not in front of it. Also, they really don't do anything over 1/4" real good. Oh and they guy that caps with 3\32 better lay off the pipe lol. The only 3 we use is 3/16" with a little 7/32" mixed in. But I'm just considered a junk welder in the t/a business.

Ex code certified welder that got into autogenus welding back in the 90's. That's were the money is at!!! Can still lay a decent bead if needed but like selling weld inspection and analytical testing services for the semiconductor and pharmaceutical industry much better. Keep practicing.

So far its going great! Nice straight beads. There are 3 there. Added a handle to the wood grate on my smoker which turned out almost perfect. Compared to what? I see lack of fusion, undercut, slag inclusions, porosity, and just about every other thing that would be rejectable.

I hate flux core. Go with a real mig or do the real welder thing and go stick. You gotta get on in there and make it sizzle. 6011 works for most stuff, 7018 is nice for 1/4 inch steel, 7024 is good for touch welding. (just cram that 7024 down in there and move.) Go right or scratch the hair off your head.

(just cram that 7024 down in there and move.) 7024 (Jet rod) is excellent for flat welding. I have even used it on horizontal welds that had a good bevel. I don't think he would do enough flat welding to justify buying a box of them. Chickenman will get tired of replacing tips and nozzles before too long. I actually keep a small spool in my truck in case I run out of gas or hard wire while out on a job.
