about to purchase alumacraft 1432 from a buddy

it has a 9.9 hp engine that runs but doesnt spin the prop

has a trolling motor as well

any info on what I should do to upgrade it would be great

Don't overpay for it just because your buing it from a buddy!

Be careful a 1432 is a skinny boat, little better than a canoe.

Keep it on the light side you don't need carpeted boards in the bottom and in time the screw holdes in the ribs will make them crack, so just don't do it.

Before Id spend a nickel Id pull lower unit and see if driveshaft is broke or a spun hub

X2, but id check for a shear pin first.

I don't see TX numbers on the side. Is it titled? Does the title match the VIN number? Is the title in your friend's name?
The engine issue is most likely a broken shear pin. When I had a small outboard, I kept a dozen shear pins and spare plug in my tackle box. Keep the mods simple. Keep the center of gravity low. Most important - do not raise the seat height.

im going this Saturday to check it out and take it to see if I like it before I actually buy it from him he told me he has the title for it but I will ask this weekend

You will need the title for the motor also. Both motor and boat titles must be in HIS name. If not you have to track down the person on the titles and get them to sign the paperwork. A real pain, and sometimes impossible to do. I learned the hard way!

When was the water pump last changed?
Check the wheel bearings is there pleanty of grease look at back side of the wheels is the seal ok? is there grease being slung all over the wheel? if so seal is bad but a easy fix and not expensive.

well he took the engine to get it checked out and they said the shaft was broke

so I am now trying to find a motor anywhere between 5-10 hp if anyone knows of one available please let me know

Have ya had that boat on water please do before ya make a deal.I would look for a wider boat
