I have been thorugh this situation on both ends, as a dealer and as a powerstroke driver. While I think this article makes it a tad bigger issue than it is there is no doubt that we have had some very serious issues with the 2003-2004 and some early 2005 6.0 litre engine. It does seem like the repair rate has declined though and the latest programing and calibration is the closest yet to resolving the lingering issues. For those that don't know it the 6.0 came out to replace the 7.3 in the domestic light duty retail market because of emission standards required for diesel engines. Ford placed an enormous load on International to produce the engine in a hurry and it bit them in the behind rushing the product to market. I think that the 2006 is a pretty good product and hopefully Ford can fight through lost revenue from the warranty volume and regain the loyalty that was lost from this admitted fiasco.

My friend from San Angelo just had a 6.0 Powerstroke engine replaced. It was in warranty but it still has him pretty mad. Only 28,000 miles!

If you are scared of the 6.0 wait for the new Ford diesel coming out. Twin turbo, shows it making a ton of power. I'm glad I sell Ford diesel parts here at work, I think I'm gonna be rich! laugh

No solid info Chris. If I get some reliable info I'll let you know. I heard it was going to be a 6.4 litre, but you know what thats worth.

It is going to be a 6.4liter twin turbo engine. They are getting rid of the variable geometry turbo and also the high pressure oil system. They are going to use a new style injector and are supposedly going to be more crammed than a 6.0
you should be seeing it in late 2006 early 2007

Well that sounds good, did you find and article some where or are you a dealer person yourself wrs? I have heard the turbo system is a primary/secondary type system not a real "twin" type.

cmt, I am a tech at a ford dealership and I had diesel training last week at the lewisville training center and was told about the new motor. You are correct about the turbo system, but who knows with ford, it could be completely different when it finally comes out.

I have a 2004 that I have been pretty happy with. Only problems I've had is a bad Cam Sensor, U-Joint and Brake Line broke (last two probably my fault).

I sure do like pulling my boat from Dallas to Toledo or Rayburn with this truck. Doesn't even know the boat is back there.

i have been a ford desiel, buyer since 1984, buying a new truck almost every year until 01, i bought a new ford the convertor went out, the warrenty fixed it but i was so mad, i took a 5000 dollar hicky on the trade in to dodge on a new 01, iam happy with the 01, haveing to only put oil changes, tires, batterys, good fuel milege, i hated the drivers seat, and the radio, very poor, great resale vaule,so i bought a 06 quad cab, 4x4 desiel auto trans, the seat issue is better, the new radio is great, the power is all i need, ijust hope it searves me as well as the 01, the straight 6 cummines has 40 percent less moveing parts, than a v8, it would seem to me , forty percent less problems, ive aways hated dodges, my idea of the perfect vec would be a ford 250 with a cummines eng, 4x4 with lockout axles, and a 6 yr un conditinal warrenty, below 40,000 bucks, i guess im dreaming right
