Yeah, that thump is like crack. It releases some endorphin that I just can't live without. I think fishing is my problem! Same here.....i just love to fish.

For sure I spent more time fishing as my marriage was failing. The D was a long time coming and I just couldn't stand to be around her. I also got a bunch of time in with my son in those days and he chose to stay with me when the end did come. He's grown now, I'm remarried and still love to fish though not as often since the need for escape is gone.

I can't say that I fish to hide my problems. I can say that fishing makes the day a lot more enjoyable. I think about the little tap, tap, thump on a Texas rig, the bass knocking my topwater up in the air, the bass hammering a spinnerbait. Fishing has also introduced me to some of my best friends on the BassGrabbers trail. Can't get enough fishing!!!!

It is the thrill of the hunt. Whether it's big bluegills on my ultra light fly rod or sand bass in the creek, channel cats, trout or salt water species, I enjoy locating them and then figuring out what works and then feeling that thump on the end of the line. The sport is a great stress reliever.

I think Brett said it best a year or more ago on here when he talked about how he relized he was spending too much time away from his wife, so he sold his boat and all his tackle to spend more time with her, I believe he advised you to do the same, and buy your significant other a nice Mercedes or something.
Sometimes we have to realize what's more important in life and give up the fishing
I followed this advice as well, I no longer even own a cane pole and all is good in the world. I believe it is better to get your wife or girlfriend involved in fishing rather than give it up. You may as well lay me in the grave if I had to give up fishing. Fishing is who I am, not what I do.

Fishing is Therapy. Fishing is spiritual. Fishing gets me out of the house, and away from the keyboard. To directly answer the poster's questions, yes I -also- fish to get away from the [censored]/stress in my life. Whether it's kids, wife, finances, job...whatever...I think everyone fishes because it makes them happy. Fishing can make you happy for a lot of reasons (the tick at the end of the line / being outside / being "away from it all" / etc.), and each and everyone of them are valid reasons.
Be happy. You got one shot at this life, so enjoy it.

The last few paragraphs of the novella "a river runs through it" explains it best. "And then in the arctic half light of the canyon all existence fades to a being with my soul, and memories, a four count rhythm and the hope that a fish will rise."
