Just moved to Midlothian... looks like lake waxahachie is my new home lake..

Anyone on here ever fish out there? I went out today to run the boat and saw 3 bass boats and a couple of ski boats.

How's the fishin on this lake?
How's the fish in general?
Any big ones?

Oh and GPS coords of your favorite hot spot?! Hahaha

I used to live there when I was in college. The south west part of the lake is probably the best. It has several docks and "cove points" to fish. There is a huge island about 5-600 yards off the damn. The north side of that island has a huge drop off.....my best fish in that lake was just over 7lbs off that drop off with a brush hog just letting it fall.

When the water is up you can access the creek that feeds the lake from the north side. you have to cross over a very shallow mudflat to get there. If you can get in there there is plenty of fallen trees and other cover that produces. Again, all about the water level.

Hope it helps!

You won't catch numbers but there is some good Bass in there. They have a tournament on that lake twice a week so there is quite a bit of pressure on those fish. You can catch 10 plus pound fish out of there, its not real big and you can break it down pretty easily. Just go fishing and you will learn it pretty quick. Learn the stumps and shallow areas before you just take off and run it full throttle. There are some hazards out there. There are Sandys but not like you would find at Lake Bardwell just to the East.

yeah...there are Sandys...especially on the flats on the east part of the lake where you see the limestone. For some reason they really like that stuff. In the winter time I used to use a 6in cotton candy worm/lizard and catch a bunch from the shore.

Like the person above stated....there are some "danger" spots on the lake that will tear your boat up if you don't be careful.

And there is a ton of pressure there because of the tournies.... I've always had the most success on the south and west parts of the lake.
If you want a nice break...you should run over to Lake Clark in Ennis....tons of structure there for bass as well as crappie.

I've never bass fished the lake but have done some crappie fishing in the spring. Before I got a boat we would put the canoe in at hwy 35 and fish up to the lake. We catch some good crappie, some sandies, and large mouths.

What are these danger spots?! Hidden stumps? Or just shallow water?

shallow water is the biggest part....especially in the northern end of the lake. You will see when you get there. The water levels change so often that one day a spot could be 4 ft and then 1ft....the lake isn't very large so you will figure it out really fast. The southern end is the deeper end of the lake so you won't have many problems there. Keep an eye on your electronics and you should be fine.

Yes under water stumps(most are marked with a jug and string) and becareful running between all the islands and the banks. Those are just long points and it gets shallow. Can run on the North bank line pretty safely ( I am guessing the lake runs west to east with the dam being the eastern most portion of the lake)The south side is pretty stumpy.

I was out there yesterday and it seemed a lot lower level than it was just two weeks ago. My son and I went out and did ok around the south side of the lake.
