Caught " a few" sand bass yesterday on a small balsa wood popper I made. They were small fish but they were still fun to catch.

Thanks guys. That popper is pretty simple. I've seen a whole lot fancier ones on here latly. But it's fairly quick to make. I dremeld the body to fit a size four hook to closer match the small minnows those fish are chasing.

I need a skiff so bad... The best is trying on a second fly and getting doubles on those schooling whites!

I'm thinking of getting a patent on some sort of helmet and back protector for clouser slinging. The slightest bit of right-to-left wind action and I pop myself every time. Don't even want to contemplate multiple clousers on my line.

Haha yea I was surprised I fished a double clouser most of the run this year and never got one in me. I'm sure you could pull doubles every cast schooling like that.

Did you drill out the balsa and put the hook through?

Dang that is fun getting them of the surface like that! Like your topwater fly as well. Were the fish up very long? They do not seem to be up as much this year which I've heard those in the know explain the shad population is down some due to a much harsher winter than usual.

Let me know when it goes to market. I'll be the first one in line.

I cut groove along the length of the body on the bottom. Then I wrapped the hook with tying thread, leaving a space between each wrap, coated the hook shank with marine epoxy and inserted it in the groove. Then filled the rest of the groove with epoxy. Once it's dried you can sand the epoxy smooth and shape it to the body. So far I have never had any problems with the hook " spinning" inside the body.
