I have a HDS 8 gen 2 and have used it for a few years now, I just watched a few videos on you tube about how to setup your sonar, they say you have to click menu and go to sonar and click installation and pick which transducer pn you have. I have never done this before and my sonar has been working. My question is why do you have to pick which transducer you have? If I do this will my sonar be more accurate?

Sometimes it helps clear up problems & interference. There are so many different versions available that fit the current models. Also I can't remember if they say choose "shallow water or freshwater", maybe someone else remembers.
