My point about Lavon's level was that the differential was say Hubbard at 430 and Lavon at 475 in the last Drought and that was with Sister Grove in play until the lake dropped so bad we couldn't take anymore "salty" water. The mix is at 4:1 now direct to the plant not the lake I was aware of that. My main point over all is Lavon at 475 with help , Hubbard was at 430 (approx) from my memory but sure as heck didnt get to 427 and drop at the rate it does. If we used the same variance from one to the other Lavon would be in the 472 range now. And back then didn't we suffer from a longer dryer period?
I know my figures are somewhat grey but the point is where in the Heck is the water in Hubbard going now compared to back then? I just don't buy the population boom , NTMWD's territory aka Collin County is growing too.

I was told (by a complete stranger) that the current lake level has something to do with the Trinity River Project. Something about the spillway walls being kept at a certain level and not raised when we do get rain. Could be total BS.... but I would not be surprised if politics are involved and east dallas water is being used for a south/west dallas project.

I just don't buy the population boom , NTMWD's territory aka Collin County is growing too. your facts and figures are close enough, and i agree with the population theory, collin county is growing, while city of dallas (hubbard's draw) is pretty well built out. sorry i don't have a definitive answer for ya. the only explanations i can come up with (and they are not mutually exclusive) are (1) during the last drought you mention, there was always SOME release off the lavon dam. for the last year at least there has been zero released any time i check the site USCOE-Lavon (2) all the downstream release rumors we hear about for the trinity flow to protect native species mating habitats

54 is a negligible release total that basically amounts to a trickle. If the release was around the 1500 mark, then we would have something to really talk about.
One thing that surprisingly hasn't been addressed is the devastating effects of siltation and the reduction of the volume of water that affects our area lakes. Hubbard, as an example, might be the best example. There is relatively little inflow of water into the lake. Rowlett Creek is the major tributary for the lake as very little inflow is actually created from any measurable release from Lavon at any time. With such a small watershed, Hubbard isn't able to effectively self clean itself through current. Over the years, areas of the lake that were close to 10' deep are now only a couple feet deep at normal levels. This is true on the north end of the lake as well as the Rowlett Creek and Muddy Creek arms as well.
Since building new reservoirs for water supply is such a political quagmire, a more immediate and feasible solution is the maintenance of existing water supply reservoirs.

We are in a drought!!!! It will start raing again one day. Look back at the major droughts Texas has had since they starting keeping records. Let's hope and pray El Nio is actually starting to develope and we get the much needed rain we need. In the early 90's Lavon flooded to record levels. That is what we need again. But will not get any measurable rain until a hurricane or October rolls around at the earliest .

We do have a point of intersection in the pipeline that is connected to the East Fork Wetlands line that comes from Crandall. We could conceivably route water to Lavon if all of the Government agencies involved would ok the transfer. Right now we've got 3-5million dollar blending tanks that we are not going to let sit idle. Maybe when times are right we'll utilize that connection and help the level of Lavon. And just to clarify it is a 4 to 1 mix so Texoma is helping the draw on Lavon by 25%. Remember we also have water coming in daily from Lake Cooper and our Wetlands project. If we didn't have these Lavon would be DRY!!!

Hey dadgumit you cant forget about the steady stream Lavon gets from the do-do plant. That puts out a lot of water and purified too.

Ok Mr Tilton I found a little 4-11 for you
The water release will continue through the summer months to supply the electric plant as well as to keep the wetlands , wet.
City expects lake to drop to 12-14' below fool pool before we get to our "rainy season", they are pulling 1/2 inch a day plus evaporation.
Those facts came from the most reliable source there is on LRH, the people who control it.
So we better just pray for rain, our faith is all we have...

Here is what I think will be the best way to remedy lack of release from Lavon...Get a study group to comb the area between the two lakes. Determine the effects of the lack of water flow and try to single out a specific animal or plant that is being adversely affected, like a White-lipped frog (Leptodactylus fragilis) or a Chihuahuan Mud Turtle or the prized Texas Golden Gladecress. spend a little less time fishing the area and a little more time understanding it. Then, simply compel the regulating authority to allow the water to be released to avoid the extension of these prized resources, it's pretty easy actually.

Down to 427.29 this morning. 8.21 feet low. It's getting scary.
At this rate, there won't be any ramps in the water within a month or two.
