So Heading out to East Matagorda with a friend, I have never fished here but I hear its great for Reds and Trout. looks like the weather is going to be great: - 7/11/14 - Start of a Full Moon - High Tide around 1pm - and fingers crossed the wind stays down
What I don't know is what they are bitting on? I will bring the standard for what I have read on the forums. - Johnsons Golden Spooon (Don't leave home without it) - 1/4oz jig with Assassins
Any help on what they are going after would be much appriciated. Thanks and have a great weekend.

Rattletrap worked ok. They were randomly hitting it pretty hard, but not hooking up the past two days on the River and at the far NW end of West Bay. This morning had a little luck on DOA shrimp, problem is it was all 8" catfish.

With your DOA are you bouncing in on the bottom with a 1/4oz or 1/8oz jig? Or attaching it to a cork popper? I ran to Bass Pro last night and picked up a couple of heddon super spook jr - Okie Shad & Flitter Shad. I also picked up a MirrOlure 3 1/4' - Red Head white body. Hope I have all the angles covered.
Looking forward to hearing your report TexanClay and hope you have a good trip.

Well I hope you had more luck than we did... We worked our way all along south and west ends and had no luck almost all trip. Finally found a couple reds the very last night, and that was under the moon on a black and chart Cocaho minnow. Threw spoons and every color plastic imaginable....

We didn't have much luck either.
All the conditions were right, we had a couple good hits but they were few and far between. We caught a [censored] load of croaker on rattle traps and crankbait, but no hits on reds or trout. I feel we were in the right spot because of the croaker but couldn't get the reds or trout really get going. O well! The kids enjoyed themselves and we all got tans.

We had similar issues. Lots of gafftops. All the reds and trout were small (6-8"). Had better luck in West Bay with trout and one bonnet head, but it seems everything was really small. The guys with us caught several keepers, but they are a lot more experienced and fish almost every weekend.
