I've got a tournament coming up on Lake Waco in 2 weeks. I've never been on the lake, and wanted to see if anyone would be willing to give me some advice as to how and where to fish that lake. Can someone please give me some advice? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't go wrong with flipping at Waco. Probably docks where there is shade. I have not fished lake in a very long time. So take advice with a grain of salt.

With the recent rise and then fall in the water levels the fishing has been poor. Hopefully the fishing will improve now that they are not letting water out. There are no docks to flip except the marinas. There is a lot of flooded grass that should hold fish. If not you just need to flip the outside tree line.

I have heard the same thing from many people. Will probably take a week or so before fishing gets better.

Tough is an understatement in my opinion. Guys, i've been there twice in the last 2 weeks, and have caught only 1 fish each time. I've thrown CB, C-Rigs, T-rig, Frogs, Swimbaits, Jigs, and Rattle traps. The only thing i haven't thrown at them has been sticks of dynamite! I've fished shallow, mid, and deep. Hell, i was sitting in 50ft of water at the dam where the aerators were trying to catch fish. Talk about feeling lost! My tournament is on the 12th, and I have no idea as to what i'm going to do. And what blows my mind, i read on the Wednesday bass tourney it's took 18lbs with 3 fish to win it. I'm lost!

That 18 pounds was several weeks ago. It took 8 pounds this week. Only four teams weighed in out of 24 teams is what I heard. Its very tough but it will turn on anyday.

Well guys, y'all are making me feel a little better. I was reading it was taking 18lbs to win on Wednesday night, and I was only catching 1 fish all day, and it wasn't even 11 inches. I'm going to go and pre-fish one more time before the tourney on the 12th and hopefully i'll find some fish want to bite.

I caught a 7 on a frog in the new vegetation today along with some smaller fish. My buddy caught a 4 on a frog yesterday. Frog fishing in the morning and evening has picked up due to the new submerged vegetation, but it is sometimes tough to find. Natural colored square bills have also worked for me in the past week to catch decent fish.

Ones in my sig i caught on frogs in the new vegitation. BUT all the fish in the grass seemed to move, lots of gar on in the grass now and the waters gone down afoot or so. water levels been all over the place. Most of vegetation seems to be rotting and dieing. Past few times i have been its been a 1 fish 2 fish day. and i fish the lake 2-3 times a week, past 2 weeks been slowing to a hault. been temped to go to the damn and catch the annual swarm of 12-14" largemouth schooling at the bubbles, but havent got that desparate yet.

I was on the lake this past sunday just cruising around in our "new to us" ski boat. I tossed a rod in just incase. We anchored in the creek just east of the dam that the Lake Shore Dr bridge goes over. I caught a couple 10-12"ers on a watermelon and red flake Ocho Texas rigged. We idled (no trolling motor) up the creek a little more past the bridge. I was tossing it out to the bank and just bouncing it back in and caught a 15"er and a 16"er even with the engine running. If fishing was our priority for the day I'd have stayed back there longer. I talked to a couple guys in a flat bottom and they hadn't hooked anything. Didn't ask what they were using though.

I'm not sure of the depths. The boat was about 20-25' from the bank and I'd hook them roughly 1/4 of the way back from the bank.

Hope that helps some, good luck with the tournament.
