Fished 4th of July morning caught 60+ with only 16 keepers between three people & fished brushpiles and timber anywhere from 15-24 feet.

We were out there July 4 as well and had the same kind of day fishing timber and a COE brushpile in 15 to 24. Three people in the boat estimate we caught 50 ish but only had 7 keepers.

This lake runs in cycles and this year there seems to be a lot more 7 to 9-1/2 inch fish. This makes our third trip out there this year and had similar numbers. Kept 12 first time then 11.

The lake was high and is still a half foot high. And they are letting water out of the lake too. With this I wonder if they are scattered or shallower then what we have been fishing.

Aquilla has not been that good this year, in general...dinks heavier than normal. A few decent keepers from time to time. Three to six keeper fish a trip seems normal, anything better is a good day...hope this information helps.

I'll agree that the fish are scattered. Was out there both July 4th morning and Sunday morning. Caught 1 keeper on Friday and 2 on Sunday. Fridays was in about 24 fow fishing 15 feet down and both on sunday were less than 15 fow. Was out there a month ago with a buddy and between the two of us, we probably caught 30 with half being keepers, all but one over 12 inches. The throwbacks are all around 8 inches. The lake coming up as fast as it did probably has the fish in lockjaw mode.

With the lake being full and ready to fish some corp brush piles I am looking forward to a night trip down there soon.

My wife and I were just talking last night about heading to Aquilla this weekend. Haven't fished it in a couple years. Never fished the lake, only creeks during the spawn.
