I was out with my family watching the fireworks show sat evening on Lake Palestine. After the show I was waiting for the boat traffic to thin out before we left. Earlier I noticed the fire and rescue boat idling around all the other boats. We started to head back to the boat ramp and just broke it over and tried to go as slow as possible besides idling all the way back. I almost ran right over the fire and rescue boat. They were idling around without a back light on!!!!!! they had the red/green and 2 big headlights in the front, but nothing in the back. If my son hadn't had noticed them then I would probably would have been sitting in the back of there boat. I managed to steer clear and shut down beside them. Had a few words and off they went still without a back light. Ok my RANT is over!!!!

They have a Chief, I would reccommend finding out who it is and then discuss this with him. I f he develops an attitude direct him to nearest GW. Firefighters are not they have to follow the same rules and laws we do. No excuses there.

Could have been an oversight or a burnt out bulb.

I can assure you that they didn't intend to have a non working light. Did you address this with them or did you simply log on and start pounding the keys???

Yes Doug I said something to them when it happened and he looked at me like I was crazy and just took off. There was no pole sticking off the back of that boat. I was only 10ft away from them. They did mange to turn on the flashing lights overhead when they were leaving.

I am thinking if it was a burnt bulb etc that there would have been a flashlight on the boat or on someone in the boat.

I would def go to their station if it is a concern and talk to someone on the upper end of the chain of command.

I'm not sure if it is a paid dept or volunteer, some volunteer depts I have had experiences with over the years have been rather bush league. But, the best way to make sure they get it right next time, I would find someone in charge and address it with them.

O no someone dissed a firefighter online for not being safe and almost causing an accident. And here come Doug!! The biggest and baddest firefighter out there! Lol just cause they are firefighters doesn't meM they had an oversight or made a mistake. I would be pissed to you are supposed to be making sure other operate safely and if u are not being safe then that's a major problem regardless of the excuse you have.
