How do you get the left sideplate off a right handed RevoSX? I tried loosening the long screw that runs across the frame behind the level wind, but that isn't doing it.

Loosen the screw all the way and pull it out, it's spring loaded. Then while holding it out, rotate the side plate towards you.

That worked. Now, has anyone pulled the bearing off the shaft? Can you just hold the spool and pull it with pliers? I want to clean and lube the bearings. Don't want to damage anything.

Saw the video on that Revo SX today . Didn't give all that much info but just out of curiosity , are they worth the cost of that reel ?

Gen 3 revo? If so, it depends on how much you paid for it. I would never pay tackle warehouse prices for ANY reel. But the ebay prices are worth it.

I agree with Xanadu. Ebay is a good place to get new reels for dirt cheap. Im about to buy a Type R Tatul for under $120 with a $20 off ebay coupon I just got. TackleWarehouse wants $199. That's an $80 savings!

Yep. My new in factory sealed premier was $199 on ebay and $299 at tacklewharehouse. If you look at tacklewharehouse damaged items for sale, they are still way higher than ebay for new sealed items. That's why I laugh when everyone gets excited about a tacklewharehouse sale.

What are the thoughts on trying to pick up an old broken revo gen 1 off eBay and and repair it? I've been wanting to get a big gear box style reel (all mine are round or old pre gear box low pro) but I don't wanna pay 200 for one but more than capable of repairing reels myself. (Waiting on a anti reverse dog pawl off eBay for an old 1978 Abu 5000 that I fished out of the trinity) is there a chance I might get a reel that can't be repaired? Or the cost of parts will bump it to the price of a functional reel? (If I can find a right hand gen 1 for sale may just buy it I its functional)

It's hard to find the gen 1 revo's that are broken on ebay because people pay almost as much as they do for a good used one.

You can pick up one like above shipped for under $100. The Gen 3 SX sells for about $125 and they have made so many improvements overall.
The trick to getting great deals on ebay is to save the item you want in "follow search" so that when the item that you want pops up with a cheap "buy it now", you can grab it quick. I have sold items that were on ebay for less than 5 minutes because the first person to see it, grabbed it. (That's when I kick myself for not asking more for it.)

Save yourself the trouble- buy a curado. Had a revo S, SX, and STX. all crapped out. took care of them and lubed them normally.
