I read an article today that they released 90,000 walleye in 1976.I'm interested in knowing if anyone has heard of walleye being caught there.Or did they all die off

As far as I'm concerned, TPWD released a lot fish in the 70s that they never should have. For example, they released walleye, northern pike and muskies in Amistad. All of these fish needs cold to cool water.

I remember them stocking walleye in Lake Bryan and Lake Conroe back in the '70s and there were some caught out of both lakes, but I haven't heard of any in a long time.

In the 70's they were stocked in lots of lakes. Cypress Springs had a big sign announcing "Home of the Walleye". Never heard of a single one caught! There are many positive "experiments" by TP&W such as the Florida Bass stockings in the late 70's and Striped Bass in the early 70's but some of these "experiments" like Walleye stockings in warm lakes were not what I would consider good uses of MY taxes. People always forget to call me before they do stupid stuff with my money like spraying hydrilla, planting grass carp, stocking walleye & smallmouth in Squaw Creek a couple years before two nuclear reactors make the water temp 100f, planting new grasses in Conroe after eradicating hydrilla......:-)

Fished Bryan extensively for several years while a student at A&M from impoundment till maybe 1981. Caught several walleye fishing for bass and some were good ones in the 6-7 lb range. At the time, Bryan was very muddy, shallow and had really hot water. I'm surprised the walleye lasted as long as they did. Had some of the biggest bass I had every run into approaching 10 lbs. Remember at the time Florida strain were new to TX and prior to that a 6 lb fish was a big fish. It was perfect for a college kid with a tube as you could get real close to cover without spooking them and the Lew's Flippin' Stick was a brand new concept. Used heavy Dacron braid and a green Abu direct drive reel with no drag. If you didn't want them to go anywhere just grab that handle and don't let it turn . The Dacron was before the braids we have today. Haven't been there in decades but have fond memories of that pond, except for the HUGE snakes that were everywhere. 'spoon
